Marine plywood has always been called as the “Rolex” of plywood. Marine plywood high performing product, suitable when “only the best will do”. Constructed using the highest grade veneers (face and core veneers), it is manufactured from selected species based on density, bending strength, impact resistance and surface finishing characteristics. Marine plywood manufactured to BS1088, Marine has a permanent Type A phenolic glue. ROCPLEX Marine Plywood is manufactured using high quality okoume.
ROCPLEX Plywoods is the only manufacturer of marine plywood that complies with BS1088 Standards in China.
Formaldehyde emission
ROCPLEX Marine Plywood is E0 formaldehyde emission rating. the lowest emission rating obtainable.
Preservative Treatment
None of the marine species are naturally durable and preservative treatment is required in marine plywood used in many marine environments such as boat hulls, pontoons and marina applications.
All cut edges should therefore be re-treated in situ. As most preservatives affect resorcinol bonding, advice should be sought from adhesive and preservative manufacturers if gluing of preservative treated plywood is intended.
Structural Properties
ROCPLEX marine plywood manufactured by possesses a stress grade of F17. This superior stress grade is attributable to our premium superior selected okoume veneer resource, the efficient utilisation of that resource, and a commitment to quality manufacture. Marine plywood manufactured to BS1088, as imported into China, does not have predictable structural performance.
Grading
Marine plywood to BS1088 has double A grade faces and a Type A glue. In the ROCPLEX marine plywood Standards grading system therefore it has a grading of AA-A bond. There is no second grade marine plywood.
Usege
Marine plywood to BS1088 should be used in hulls of boats and where specified in other marine applications and in aircraft construction. Marine plywood to overseas standards must not be substituted for BS1088 marine plywood.
Finishing
If used as an interior wall or ceiling lining, we recommend pre-finishing. Marine plywood is not suitable for fully exposed applications.
Take care in free standing applications
Plywood is a natural product that can be affected by changes in ambient weather conditions, possibly causing previously flat sheets to bow. At ROCPLEX Plywoods all precautions are taken to ensure flatness at time of dispatch, however once the plywood has left our factory we cannot guarantee sheets to remain flat unless fastened. This is particularly important where free standing kitchen/cabinet doors are concerned.
Important
Before using oil based coatings & stains, ensure that they are compatible with plywood. Although we do recommend water based finishes, stains have been tested and approved by ROCPLEX Plywoods as being suitable for use with plywood. Other oil based coatings are not recommended on plywood where the finished job will be subject to close scrutiny. Other oil based coatings tend to penetrate the face veneer of the plywood and strongly highlight the natural figure in the timber, darkening it considerably. In many applications this may not be desirable. Other oil based stains also tend to swell the grain of the surface veneer, again potentially deform the plywood.
